This month, CONA’s education session will focus on neighborhood covenants. Many housing subdivisions built in Bloomington since the 1950s have covenants that regulate many aspects of neighborhoods such as housing occupancy, street parking, and fences. Many neighborhood residents do not understand the implications of their covenants. With the changes to the Unified Development Ordinance last year, more information about covenants will help neighborhoods understand what each regulates.

We will have two speakers talk for about covenants for about 10 minutes each and then the meeting will be open for questions and answers. The session will end at 8.

Mike Carmin is a local attorney who concentrates his practice in real estate and teaches continuing legal education (CLE) classes for attorneys on covenants and restrictions.

Cynthia Bretheim has long been active in CONA. She recently researched a number of covenants in Bloomington neighborhoods to help CONA understand their breadth and focus.

If you would like a copy of the current bylaws and/or the proposed amendments, we would be happy to send them.
